Tips for eReaders

When you purchase any of the eBooks at RonHughart.com, you will be sent a link to a special downloads area that only you may access. The link will contain the book in different formats. Find the format for your device to download it.

Currently we have these formats available:

ePub Format
For most eReaders (Nook, Sony Reader, Kobo, and most e-reading apps including Stanza, Aldiko, Adobe Digital Editions, others)

Mobi Format
For Kindle, Kindle for PC, and Kindle for Mac

PDB Format
For Palm Reading Devices

LRF Format
for older Sony Readers

Below are some very basic instructions for adding ebooks to the most-often used devices. Also see your device’s manual for more detailed instructions.

Adding your file to your Kindle (MOBI Files):

Connect your Kindle to your computer using the USB connector which came with your Kindle. This makes your Kindle appear as a hard drive on your computer. You can then either download the .mobi file directly to your Kindle’s “documents” folder, or if you’ve already saved it to your computer, copy the downloaded file into the Kindle’s “documents” folder. Additional support is available on Amazon.com.

Adding an eBook to your iPad (ePUB Files):

Use the iPad’s Browser to visit the downloads page (at the url emailed to you). Then download the ePub version of the book. If you use more than one eBook reader (default is iBooks), your iPad will ask you which eReader you’d like to use for reading the book. Pick the reader you prefer. NOTE: If you have already downloaded the book to your computer, you can use the same iphone technique listed directly below.

Adding an eBook to your iPhone’s iBooks Library (ePub Files):

Download the EPUB file to your computer. Open the iTunes application. Go to the file menu and select “Add to Library.” Navigate to the folder where you downloaded the .epub file, select it and click “Choose.” iTunes will import it to your library. Then, when you have your iPhone (or iPad) connected to your computer, select your iPhone name and click the “Books” tab at the top of the window and select the box to “Sync Books.”

Adding Ron’s eBook to your Sony Reader (ePUB Files):

Connect your Sony Reader to your computer using the USB cable that came with it. Open your computer’s browser to visit our downloads page at RonHughart.com. Then download the ePub version of the book. You will be asked where you want to save it. Next, navigate your system directory (PC users: Click My Computer) (Mac Users: Devices Sidebar), where you’ll see your Sony Reader appear as a hard drive labeled READER: E (or another letter), then click READER, then click the directory for DATABASE, then click the directory for BOOKS. This is where you will save the downloaded file. After you save the file, wait until it is copied and then you can unplug the Sony Reader from the USB cable and your book will be available on your Sony Reader.

Adding an eBook to your Barnes & Noble Nook (ePub or LRF):

Connect your Nook to your computer via the USB cable (it will appear as a hard drive). Open your computer’s browser to visit our downloads page at RonHughart.com. Then download the ePub version of the book. Copy the file to your Nooks “My Documents” folder. NOTE: if you have an older Nook device, you might need to copy the LRF version instead. Barnes & Noble provides an excellent how-to video

Adding Ron Hughart’s eBook to your Android (ePUB Files):

Android offers a number of eReader apps. The following are instructions for the popular Aldiko reader. If you use another reader, please see the instructions provided by the reader. Connect your Android to your computer via a USB cable. When the “Connect to PC” menu pops up on your Android device, select “Disk Drive.” On your computer go to “My Computer” and you should see your device connected to your computer. If you use the Aldiko reader, you should find a folder named “EBooks” and a folder inside that named “import.” Drag and drop the “(Book Title).pub” file into the “ebooks/import” folder. On your Android device, start Aldiko and press the Android device menu key. In the Menu, select import and follow the device. Aldiko will place your purchased copy of Ron Hughart’s eBook on its Bookshelf.

Adding an Ebook to your Palm Device (PDB files):

Many Palm devices come with the eReader app installed. If yours doesn’t have it, you need to get it.  Download the .pdb version of the eBook to your computer. Open HotSync, select transfer file, locate the file and transfer it to your Palm device.

Reading Ron Hughart’s eBook on your computer:

There are many options for enjoying your new eBook on your own computer. The easiest way is by downloading the PDF version of the book to your computer.

Most computers have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. If you don’t have it, you can Get Adobe Reader here. Open up the “.pdf” document by double-clicking on the file.

If you prefer to have all of your eBooks together in a library, you might want to check out Amazon.com’s free application Kindle for PC or Kindle for Mac. The reader offers a much better reading experience with many features. If you do get the app, you’ll want to download the mobi version of your book by Ron Hughart.
